About Your Color Consultant

I founded Color Sense Consulting in 2010 to help people feel happier at home. I have an intuitive color sense, an artist’s point of view, and am grounded in the elements of interior decorating. I take the guesswork out of choosing paint colors! As a color consultant, I help clients create warm and welcoming living spaces, that not only look good, but feel good too. I know paint is transformative, and colors can be emotional and interactive. I understand how visual factors affect your mood and well-being.

A Unique History

I attended art school, but took a detour, and ended up as a clinical social worker. Now working as a color consultant, I combine my artistic perspective with the people skills I learned as a therapist. My experience with family mediation certainly comes in handy when couples have trouble agreeing on paint colors! My unique skill set combines my art education with knowledge of behavioral and environmental psychology. A lifelong learner, I’ve spent decades studying how people are affected by certain factors in their environments. I’ve taught classes about environmental psychology to mental health professionals at Johnson County Community College, through the Health and Human Services department. I’ve also offered color classes to the public through Communiversity at the University of Missouri, Kansas City.

Always Decorating, Forever Learning, Committed to Community

It is no surprise that I enjoy decorating my home, and creating beautiful landscapes. My gardens are, of course, color coordinated with my house! I’m a perpetual student, and am often found reading shelter magazines, or books on interior decorating. I keep up with trends by checking out color and interior decorating blogs every day. I’ve also been a community and environmental activist for decades. My love of the natural world has been a driving force in my life. In my leisure time, I love reading, and binge-watching on Netflix. I live in Overland Park, Kansas, with my family.

KC Color Consultant in the Press

Color Sense Consulting was profiled in the “What’s New” section of the January/February, 2011, issue of the former “Kansas City Homes & Gardens” magazine. I’m quoted below:

“I understood early on that I could self-medicate with color, and adjust my moods accordingly. More than three decades, and tons of research later, I know a lot about the benefits of colorful, healing spaces. All my knowledge of art, color, design, healing, nature, Feng Shui, and peoples’ emotional and spiritual needs goes into my process.”

I also contributed to a couple of articles on decorating with color for the same magazine. I was thrilled to be included with several national color experts! Here are the links below:
